So let me get this straight, my immature brat of a little brother just went and blew all of his money on hookers and useless items, lost everything, then came crawling back to daddy, boo hoo right? Oh no, instead pops decides to throw this huge party in his almighty return. WHAT? And here I am working my butt off at the farm for pops and what does he give me? Not to mention the fact that if I pulled some crap like that he would have killed me!
That’s got to be close to what was going trough the head of the older brother, (In modern day dialog of course.) Can you really blame him for being upset with both his father and his younger brother? The older son is feeling anger, rejection, and pure frustration and confusion. He doesn’t understand why his brother is getting treated like he has come back from some huge battle in life. I mean he went out bought to many prostitutes and cool things then it came to bit him in the butt, and now it’s like he has learned some huge lesson in life and he pulled trough and survived the hardest adventure ever. The father said he was dead and alive again, that’s funny because it sounds like he was living it up there for a while. The father also said that all he had was the older brothers, and in the back of the older brother’s mind I’m sure he was thinking, “Oh yeah right, like when you die you’re going to leave your “resurrected” little angel with nothing. There isn’t a doubt in my mind that when you kick you will leave him another nice little plunder that he can go blow again.” The older brother was angry because he thought that he was being mistreated and tossed the sour side of the deal. In a way he was, but later in life he will know what to do and I would be willing to bet that the older brother was way smarter with his money and riches than his brother in the long run. He got one thing his brother didn’t get and that was learning from his father and spending all that time with him. But he will not realize that until later in life.
