Truth?
Ever sense we were little kids we have always been told about what is right and what is wrong. Don't lie, dint kill and don't steal are just a few of the endless examples. But is there such a thing as an absolute truth, or right? Was robin hood wrong for steeling from the rich and greedy to give to the poor and starving? If someone broke into your house with a gun and threatened to kill your family, and you shot and killed them is that wrong? Some people posses the faith to believe in absolute truhs, such as God is real, and the earth was created in 7 days. But I do not posses that faith. I think that there are right and wrong things you can do in this world, but as far as an absolute truth goes I'm not convinced.

Interesting...
ReplyDeleteI think a good book for you to read would be Mere Christianity by CS Lewis. Im not trying to pressure you or convert you. lol. The book just covers this topic. It talks about the moral standards and such- what is right and what is wrong, why is it right or wrong, and how do we know something is right or wrong. Its a really great book. Its not an easy read because it is very wordy, but I really enjoyed it. If you want to read it, let me know- I have a copy you can borrow.
Pretty sweet post man! Although I gotta say, you obviously can't be trying to get those extra credit points... I found 3 typos in the first two sentences. But yeah, the whole black-and-white idealogy is something that's sparked debates for centuries. Some people believe that it is ok to kill an intruder. After all, it's only self-defense, right? But I honestly believe that you shouldn't kill an intruder IF you are a Christian. If you aren't a Christian, then you have no reason not to. Do you guys remember that story last fall about the man who tried to rob a store? There was only one lady in the store, the clerk behind the desk. He came in and began to take money out of the register. The lady, however, began to just talk to him and tell him that he needs to just stop and that he is too young to throw his life away. He broke down in tears and he and the lady just talked for an hour. I don't think you should kill somebody if they are robbing you or trying to kill you. After all, if you die, you go to Heaven, but if the intruder dies, he probably will go to Hell. In some odd way, you are sacrificing your life in order to give the intruder a second chance. IF you are a Christian, then you should not kill an intruder.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm not preaching or arguing here. I just got on a roll! Sorry if I offended you anywhere, Typo. I hope you see the message I tried to get across.
So do you think truth changes with time or do you think it's just kind of variable? Is it like "the world is grey" or something? I wonder about absolutes sometimes too, so I'm just curious to know what you think.
